The Stamp Act-1765

The Next tax was issued in 1765, it was the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act stated that any Legal Documents, such as a license, wills, diplomas, newspapers, almanac, playing cards etc had to have a tax paid on them. The stamp was there to show that the owner had paid the tax on that item.

This new tax didn't go over well with the colonists. They thought that is was extremely unfair to issue all these new taxes with out colonial representation. The colonists proteseted "No Taxation Without Representation". They even petitioned to King George III and to Parliment saying that it was not fair to impose all these taxes with out fair representation. Parliment rejected their petition so colonists boycotted British goods. The result of this boycott  ended in the Repeal of the Stamp Act in 1766
